Two Electric Cars Designed by Students Arrive in Palembang

VOSMedia,  PALEMBANG – Two flagship electric cars specifically designed by students of the Science and Technology Center of Excellence in the Automotive Control System (PUI-SKO) of the Institute of Technology Sepuluh November (Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember) Surabaya in collaboration with PT PLN and Budi luhur University Jakarta arrived in Palembang and were welcomed by the Regional Unit General Manager Master S2JB, Daryono.

“Welcome to all members of the Indonesian PLN Blits Explore Team who arrived at the PLN UIW WS2JB office, which had previously docked in Bengkulu on November 19, and then continued the trip to South Sumatra,” he said on Tuesday (11/27/18).

Daryono said, the visit of the Indonesian PLN Blits Explore team around Indonesia to test the engine components of a car with zero emission or exhaust gas.

“These electric cars will surround Indonesia with a distance of 16 thousand km, the specifications are 100 percent electrically powered using a motor energy capacity of 50 kw, and the battery used is 100 kWh,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Head of South Sumatra Energy and Mineral Resources Office, Robert Heri said, The existence of this electric car would be more efficient with conversion would save fuel and be cheaper, because the highest subsidy in the vehicle sector is BBM.

“Comparison between 1 km using electricity and using fuel, of course cheaper electricity, and in the future we will coordinate with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources to immediately arrange regulations for conversion from BBM to electricity. So far, from BBM to gas, now it’s time from BBM to electricity,” he explained.

On other side, the Head of the Indonesian PLN Blits Explore team, Agus revealed, the two electric cars with the names of the cassowary hybrid series and WVO Ford ranger were the result of cooperation between ITS and Budi Luhur. While for the manufacture itself starting from the body and cassis assembly takes approximately 7 months, with components made by themselves.

“When the electric vehicle industry in Indonesia begins to enter, we have prepared works for the nation’s children in the future, with the hope that we will integrate existing industries that can already be used for body, cassis and spare parts,” he said.

According to Agus, the State of Indonesia could make the electric cars, but Indonesia could not make shockbreaker, engine, and unit control, for that he felt responsible for making what cannot be made by industry friends.

“Charging for this red car can be up to 3-4 hours with a distance of 150 km, and cars with 7 hours with a distance of 350 km,” he said.

For the future, it will hold mass production, because it wants to make and master its main components first by cooperating with industries to make national cars.

“Later we will join the industry to jointly create national cars, but we are still constrained by components due to imports in China,” he hoped.(*)
